Overview of the Academy

The Academy of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Services provides occupationally specific training designed to develop knowledge and skills for post-secondary education as well as employment in the multifaceted culinary and hospitality services industry. 

The academy is designed to offer students opportunities to experience culinary arts and hospitality in “hands on” laboratory environments while maintaining a comprehensive high school education. 

By the end of the second year, students will make a decision to focus on either the culinary track or the hospitality track for academy years three and four.

Culinary Arts Track
Years 3 and 4

This track is designed for students who are interested in careers in the food service industry.  Students may position themselves for a variety of options such as, 1) immediate entry into the workforce, 2) enrollment into a culinary academy to prepare to become a chef, or 3) enrollment into a college or university.  Students completing this academy will possess industry recognized certifications as well as industry experience in both the food service industry and the hospitality services industry..

Hospitality Services Track
Years 3 and 4

In addition to culinary experience, the hospitality services track provides students who are interested in the hotel and restaurant industry, as well as other hospitality fields, an opportunity to train off-campus with partnering hotels and restaurants.

Students will intern by performing rotations through all major areas of a hotel and restaurant.  Examples of possible rotation sites include front desk, back of the house, concierge, engineering, accounting, and restaurant/kitchen.

Students completing this track will have a variety of career options that include pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Business, Sales and Marketing, Human Relations, as well as many other service industry careers.
