Academy Candidates
Academies are open to any incoming 9th graders who reside in Northwest Independent School District. The academy program immerses a student in four years of rigorous training and experience in the academy area of study.

Academies are designed for students who have a strong interest in an academy area of study.  Other students should opt for exploratory courses in the district’s career pathways.

Application Process
An application and essay is required for admission to all academies.  This will be completed during the 8th grade year and submitted by the designated due date.  Applicants must submit an application and write an essay.  An application review committee may consist of Administrator(s), Academy Facilitator(s), Academy Teacher(s) and industry partners.  Grades, TAKS scores, attendance, discipline issues, essay, and teacher recommendation will be the criteria for evaluating all applicants for admission.

Late applications will not be reviewed or accepted.

Applications may be obtained from your middle school counselor or in the FORMS section of this handbook.  You may also obtain one on our website:  http://academies.nisdtx.org.

Each academy can accommodate up to 100 students per year with the exception of AMP, which will accept 50 applicants per year.
